Chief Business and Corporate Development Officer
|Location:||Reston, VA||Department:||BH - Bulletin Healthcare, BM - Bulletin Media||Type:||Full Time||Min. Experience:||Senior Executive||Status:||Open|
We’re looking for a uniquely talented and ambitious individual to lead the expansion of revenue growth through new business initiatives and partnerships. The two closely-linked independent subsidiaries, Bulletin Healthcare and Bulletin Media (BH/BM), were recently acquired by Cision as it simultaneously announced plans to become a public company traded on Nasdaq in the second quarter of this year. BH/BM operate under the same business model, provide specialized news to 1.5 million physicians, healthcare providers and other professionals each day, have a combined 20% average annual revenue growth for each of the past five years and have enormous potential to increase this rate significantly. BH/BM plan significant new investment over the next 12 months to achieve their fast-growth goals.
This position is demanding and high-profile. We are seeking a rare mix of strategic, quantitative, and operational skills. The ideal candidate will possess an understanding of and experience in driving the execution of strategic partnerships with leading players in the industry. Importantly, success in this new position comes with a significant upside potential.
The Chief Business and Corporate Development Officer will be responsible for the following:
- Evaluating existing concepts for new sources of revenue
- Appraising the market, including competition and trends, while helping to lead in the development of new initiatives
- Identifying joint-venture targets, directly participate in the deal process and integration; and
- Identifying and analyzing new products’ revenue potential and assist in launching those deemed most likely to succeed.
The ideal candidate will have experience in the healthcare, pharmaceutical or similar fields, and the ability to launch strategic initiatives and partnerships to grow revenue in this fast-changing industry. BH/BM will rely on the position’s analysis, business plans, and insights to help determine where to invest additional resources. The successful candidate will assist in defining the approach for this newly created position and will apply appropriate rigor to the evaluation of opportunities. The BH/BM leadership team is entrepreneurial and quick to act but also grounded in sound decision-making processes.
The position will begin with a small team of a half-dozen or so professionals and will be expected to enhance the team through new hires of top strategic talent. The specific roles and timing of hires will depend on the flow of opportunities and workload, but recruitment efforts will begin immediately.
We don’t believe a background in corporate and business development is essential. Your career path may instead have pointed to roles such as Chief Revenue Officer, Management Consultant at a top-tier firm, Pharmaceutical Brand Manager, Private Equity, etc. Education concentrations in business, economics, math, or science are preferred, with an MBA or similar advanced degree from a top school being a large plus. Most important is the ability to be a quick learner and to execute on plans fast and efficiently.
Preferred experience/skills will include a mix of the following:
- Ability to hire and manage a strong growth-oriented team.
- Experience structuring and negotiating joint ventures, revenue-share partnerships, and other complex agreements.
- Ability to identify and analyze new products’ revenue potential and assist in launching those deemed most likely to succeed.
- A keen understanding of the healthcare industry and pharmaceutical marketing.
- An in-depth understanding of digital advertising.
- Exceptionally strong quantitative skills.
- A strategic and creative mind.
- Ability to devise and test unique approaches and help drive implementation of new initiatives.
